Julie Payette

Julie Payette , (born the October 20th 1963 with Montreal, in Quebec) is a Canadian Astronaute of the Canadian Space agency (SCUMS) which works mainly with NASA.

Studies

It made its primary and secondary studies with Montreal. Thereafter, in 1982, a international Baccalaureat with the United World College off the Atlantic (UWC) in England. Then, in 1986, it makes a baccalaureat in Electronic engineering with the Université McGill in Montreal and, finally in 1990, a control in data-processing Génie with the Université of Toronto.

NASA

It is in 1996 that it began its formation with the Space center Johnson from NASA, with Houston, with the Texas, that it will finish in April 1998. It was then assigned to various departments, of which robotics on behalf of the Office of the astronauts.

Mission

May 27th with the June 6th 1999, Julie took share with the mission STS-96 on board the Space shuttle Discovery . This mission consisted in carrying out the first manual mooring of the shuttle to the International space station, the delivery and the installation of four tons of material. It was responsible for the systems of the station and operated the robot-like arm Canadarm in orbit.
