Julian Casablancas

Julian Fernando Casablancas (born the August 23rd 1978) is the Chanteur group The Strokes.

Julian Casablancas is the son of John Casablancas (founder of the agency of mannequins Elite), and of Jeanette Christiansen (a Mannequin Danish elected Miss Denmark in 1965). It has 2 half brothers and 1 half sister. It is very young when his/her parents divorce and is then educated by his/her mother and her companion, the painter Sam Adoquei.

The first member of the Strokes that Casablancas knew is Nikolai Fraiture: they went to the same kindergarten, and became better friends in fifth. Whereas it is 14 years old, his/her father sends it to the Institut Rosey, a boarding school in Suisse. It is over there that it meets Albert Hammond Jr. Although both did not then become friendly, Julian will have the idea to incorporate Albert in his group after having met it randomly crossroads in Manhattan, Albert will become the joint tenant of Julian thereafter.

When Julian returned to New York after six months to the Institute Rosey, it takes the courses with the Dwight School of Manhattan, it is there that it meets Fabrizio Moretti and Nick Valensi, which later also became members of Strokes. It stops the school after the vat, then goes to the Université Length Island during one year, receiving a purse after having composed a traditional piece of music. He will work as barman before starting his musical career.

In 2002, it is wounded with the knee with a barbecue on July 4th, by making fight with friends, and had, consequently, to make several representations on a stool, including their concert with the White Stripes.

The musical influences of Julian are vast, they go from Nirvana to The Pogues while passing by Bob Marley, Guided by Voices, and The Doors. One of the principal influences of Julian Casablancas (as well as of other members of the band) to form a group was the Velvet Underground, that Julian described as greater rock group. As a principal type-setter of the songs, Julian has the greatest impact on their sound and is known to be extremely meticulous person with itself. However, the group claims that Julian became more communicative and more opened with other contributions.

Julian had alcohol problems a long time but now reduced its consumption, although much is still skeptics as for the width of his sobriety. In did an interview of March 2006 in the NME, Julian say “alcohol changed my way of writing and myself, as anybody, you see? I did not want to have the spirit disturbed 24 hours a day”. It also stopped smoking.

February 5th, 2005, Julian Casablancas married Juliet Joslin (now Juliet Casablancas), the assistant of the box of management which deals with the group, after having attended the photographer Colleen Barry and the singer anti-folk Regina Spektor. He announced his marriage with several concerts of which that with Central Park, where before playing their song Hard to explain , he said: “I' m getting married and it' S hardware to explain! ” (" I will marry and it is hard to explain! ").
