Julia Hall Bowman Robinson (December 8th, 1919 - July 30th, 1985) was a American Mathématicienne , born with Saint Louis (Missouri). It grows in Arizona, then in the south of the California. At nine years, it had to keep the bed during one year because of a scarlet fever and its complications. It took again the school with two years of delay; its tests of IQ proved to be slightly lower than the average. It is at that time that it started to be interested in mathematics. It was the only girl to choose the orientation maths-physics, and accepted the congratulations at the end of the year! After having spent a few years in San Diego State College (now called San Diego State University), it went to the Université of Berkeley, where it finishes its undergraduate and graduate dismantle .

In 1941, it married its mathematics professor of Berkeley. But a law at that time prohibited a couple from working in the same department; then Julia Robinson remained a long time at the laboratory of statistics… It passed its thesis in 1948, under the direction of Alfred Tarski. Then it decided to attack the Tenth problem of Hilbert: its work on the equations diophantiennes and the Décidabilité did not make it possible to solve this problem; but in 1970 the proof of the indecidability of the Tenth problem of Hilbert provided by Youri Matiiassevitch was based largely on its work. In fact Robinson moved away from this subject only twice during its research. The first time was for its thesis on the resolution or the not-resolution of mathematical problems. The second was in the Game theory, where it proved that the dynamics of the fictitious player converges towards a balance of Nash in mixed Stratégie within the framework of a Jeu to null sum with two players.

In 1976, Robinson was the first woman with being elected member of Mathématiques division of the National Academy off Sciences. Moreover, it was the first woman president of the American Mathematical Society.

She died in Oakland, California of Leucémie at the 65 years age.

His/her big sister, Constancy Reid, is a famous biographer of mathematicians.
