Julia Morgan

Julia Morgan is an American Architecte (January 20th 1872 - February 2nd 1957).

Biography

Born with San Francisco, she studied with Oakland then she specialized in the Civil engineering with the Université of Berkeley. She left for France and was the first allowed woman with the 3Ecole Nationale Sup3erieure of the fine arts of Paris in 1892 and until 1898.

She founded her own agency of architecture to San Francisco in 1904. She designed approximately 800 buildings but remains especially known for the construction of Hearst Castle in California, for William Randolph Hearst with San Simeon (she was the goddaughter of Phoebe Hearst, mother of William R Hearst). One also owes him the plans of YWCA in the Chinatown of San Francisco.
