Jules Siegfried
Jules Siegfried , born with Mulhouse the February 12th 1837 and dead the September 26th 1922, is a French contractor and politician. He was first assistant, then mayor of the Havre (1870 - 1873 and 1878 - 1886), appointed Seine-Lower (1886 - 1897 and 1902 - 1922), senator (1897 - 1900), then Commercial Minister, Industry and Colonie S (December 6th 1892 with the March 30th 1893) in 1st and the 2nd cabinet Ribot. Husband of the feminist Julie Siegfried and father of the historian Andre Siegfried, the French Academy.
With his brother Jacques (1840 - 1909), it founds the company Siegfried Frères with the Havre and Mulhouse in 1861, specialized in the trade of cotton. It will become the cotton Company towards 1870. As of the years 1860, the company has a branch with Bombay.
Always with his brother, it will be at the origin of the creation of the National college of business of Mulhouse, founded in 1866 on the model of the Institute of higher learning of trade of Antwerp. This one will be closed in July 1872, because of the annexation of the Alsace. It will be used as model with that of Lyon (current the EM Lyon) which will recruit many its professors. The brothers leave the Alsace, and settle in Normandy, where they found the National college of business of Rouen and the National college of business of Le Havre which always exist.
