Jules Martelet

Jules Martelet , born with Saint-Brice-Courcelles on September 27th, 1843, deceased with Ivry on April 27th, 1916, is a personality of the Commune of Paris.

Biography

Jules Martelet, artist in stained glass, left Saint-Brice in 1863 for Paris or it adheres with the International association workers. During the head office of Paris by the Germans (September 1870 - March 1871) he enlists in the 136e battalion of the National guard. He takes share at the revolutionary days of the October 31st, 1870 and January 22nd, 1871 against the Gouvernement of National defense. At the time of the rising of March 18th it seizes the town hall XIVe district. March 26th, he is elected with the Conseil of the Commune by XIVe district, he sits at the commission of the Public services. He was named administrator of XIVe district.

After the bloody Semaine it is condemned in 1873 to the deportation, but succeeds in escaping from Paris and took refuge in Suisse, where he became professor of drawing with La Chaux-de-Fonds, then in Belgium and finally in the United States.
