Jules Janin

Jules-Gabriel Janin (Saint-Etienne, February 16th (or December 4th?) 1804 - Paris, June 19th 1874) is a writer and critical theatrical French.

Biography

Wire of a lawyer, it receives a good education, initially in Saint-Etienne then with the Louis-the-Large Lycée with Paris.Après a passage in the study of the solicitor Jean-Baptiste Guillonnet-Merville, where it will be change brook at the same time as Honore de Balzac 1819, it quickly becomes journalist and works in particular with the Revue of Paris , with the Revue of the two worlds , with the Figaro and the Quotidienne . It was among the founders of the Revue of Paris and of the Journal of the Children . It is made known in 1827 with a strange novel the dead ass and the guillotinée woman . the confession in 1830, a little less deep, but with the style even more remarkable, and Barnave in 1831, where it tackles the family of Orleans, finish sitting its reputation.

Meanwhile it enters as critical to the Journal of DEBATEs where there remain forty years. Its authority makes it call “the prince of criticisms”.

After many attempts he is elected with the French Academy the April 7th 1870 and takes the seat of Holy-Beuve.

A study on Jules Janin accompanied by a bibliography was published by Alexandre Piédagnel in 1874.
