Jules Fleming

Jules Fleming , painter and artist French, born in 1871 and died in 1947 in Corenc, small village close to Grenoble.

Biography

After a training of engraver lithographer, it leaves for Paris where it returns to Beautiful arts in 1894. Its Master, Gustave Moreau, supports instead of blocking it, the expression of the personality of his pupils. Among them, Jules meets his first friends: Marquet, Matisse, Rouault, Camoin and well of others…. It begins its Parisian life street Campagne First, in Montparnasse where it settles with Jacqueline Marval, the partner of her beginnings and its maturity.

Very early noticed in various exposures: with the Main road (it will be soon one of the youngest members), with independent and the Living room of Fall. Near to the impressionist , in 1898, it will be to it also Nabi, with Maurice Denis.

Impassioned music, he plays several instruments and composes for his pleasure or that of his friends. Also, with the arrival of the Russian Ballet (Nijinsky, Pavlova, etc), he discovers a new dimension which he translates in masterly works.

He affirms his personal way in the dream of a new classicism. He often says: “The Masters, it is nature”. Later, it joined his friends Fauves: Matisse, Marquet, etc

With the First World War, it is found in first line in Champagne and in the Somme to discover on its return that all, even painting had changed. It launches out in the Tapisserie and creates its own workshop, in Grenoble, which must close in 1923, because of too heavy financial expenses.

Touch with all, it is interested in the Céramique but also in the Photo and the Astronomie, doing itself of the stereotypes of the star S. In 1919, it changes workshop and settles with Marquet, Matisse, Marval, 19 quai Saint Michel. It shares its time between Paris (autumn and winter), the Italy and the summer with Corenc.

In 1931, it settles in Grenoble where it marries the young artist Henriette Deloras, which it knows since of the years. They go regularly to Paris to expose until 1939. With the war and the death of Henriette, it is withdrawn in Corenc with his son, “Julo”, continuing to paint many landscapes, until the end of its life in 1947.
