Jules Desnoyers

Jules Pierre François Stanislas Desnoyers (Nogent-le-Rotrou, October 8th 1800 - Nogent-le-Rotrou, 1887) is a geologist, archeologist and historian, founding member of the geological Company of France.

After studies of right and natural science, it becomes in 1825 secretary of the Company of Natural history of Paris, and 1831 to 1832 secretary of the geological Company of France. In 1833, it enters to the Muséum of natural history of Paris as assistance-naturalist of geology. One year later, it is named librarian of the Natural history museum and secretary of the Société of the French history.

This same year 1834, it belongs to the committee charged by Guizot with directing the publication of the new documents relating to the French history, and in 1841 becomes member of the charged commission of the organization of the departmental records.

Author of geological and historical work, it enters to the Académie of the inscriptions and the humanities in 1862. One owes him creation, in 1829, of the " term; quaternaire" to indicate the geological era most recent.
