Jules Allix (1818, Fontenay-the-Count - 1897, Paris) was a personality of the Commune of Paris, enthusiastic republican, militant Socialist, convinced feminist and eccentric whose whims led it several times to asylum.

Biography

Born from a middle-class medium, wire of a merchant-hardware merchant, bachelor of law, Jules Allix is pointed out for the first time by presenting its candidature in the Vendée for the constituent Assembly of 1848 as “a Communist for the defense of the religion”.

Living in clandestinity after the days of June, it is stopped one year later at the time of its implication in the business of the Academy of Arts and Métiers. In 1853, its participation in the plot of the Hippodrome is worth to him to be condemned to eight years of exile. With its family, it then joined with Jersey his brother Emile, doctor and friend of Victor Hugo. For this period, it takes part in experiments of speaking tables organized by Victor Hugo, but it is taken of a crisis of madness during one of these meetings, which encourages Hugo to cease these practices.

Amnestied in 1860, it returns to Paris and watch of the first signs of mental derangement which will lead it to the Asile of Charenton in July 1865. His/her brother will make some leave in September 1866. From this day, he saw one period ostentation in scientific theories, projects teaching and social activism of inspiration fourierist.

Locked up with the prison of Refined in January 1871, it is released from it at the first day of the Parisian insurection, on March 18th. Carried by the breath of the revolt, it drives out the mayor of the {{VIIIe}} district Ernest Denormandie and takes its place, before being confirmed at this station at the time of the elections for the Conseil of the Commune. As a member of the Commune, it shows a republican and socialist exaltation vibrating, but its behavior monocratic and its extravagances with the town hall of 8th and as a military commander make it return to Charenton in May.

After the end of the Commune, the Of Versailles ones judge it, but its incoherent remarks only condemn it to remain in Charenton. It leaves asylum in 1876, is amnestied in 1879 then saw and militates from now on modestly, primarily for the feminist cause.

Inventions and projects

All its life, the odd spirit of this touch-with-all swarmed with many projects such as the training of the reading in 15 one hour lessons (1854), the Perpetual motion (1880), the transformation of Paris into seaport or creation with Saumur of a river port on the Thouet connected to the Loire by a navigable tunnel (1895). During the head office of Paris, he recommends with Parisian the port of the hydrocyanic finger , die of his design comprising a needle and a reserve of prussic acid intended to protect itself extremely in connection with the attacks from the Prussians.

But its “invention” the most famous date of 1850 and names the pasilalinic compass sympathetic nerve or more commonly the snails sympathetic nerves . It is about a method of telegraphy based on the capacity supposed of the Escargot S to maintain a contact sympathetic nerve after the sex act. In other words, a snail is able to transmit to all distances, by the means of a fluid identified with a form of animal magnetism propagated by the ground, its state of excitation to congeneric with which it sympathized, it is the “escargotic commotion”. Using two apparatuses comprising of the troughs located by letters and container of the snails sympathetic nerves correctly paired, it is then possible to transmit messages instantaneously and without material support.

Hélàs, Jules Allix was not really the inventor of these means of communication, but misused by an obviously faked public experimentation, it was made of it the naive promoter with the names of Jacques All Saints' day Benoît and Biat-Christian (nobody fictitious supposed to be in Americas and to be in daily liaison escargotic with Benoît). More skeptic, Hyppolyte Triat, patron of Benoit and close friend of Alex, invited Benoît to renew the experiment according to a more rigorous protocol and in the presence of Emile of Girardin, it accepted but disappeared the day before. He died misérablement in 1852.

This anecdote amused the Parisian ones a long time, Honore Daumier was inspired some in a caricature in 1869, and Alphonse Allais in we do not strike thus depicts communicating Allix with a friend in Ireland with the beard of Of Versailles besieging Paris. Although that is not formally established, it seems that the Manga One Piece parody also this type of communication through.
