Jukkasjärvi
Jukkasjärvi is a locality of 541 inhabitants in the commune of Kiruna in Sweden, located at some 200 kilometers in the north of the Polar circle.
In the language of the Lappish , the Same, “Jukkasjärvi” results in “point of appointment”, which was this old Sami village during more than 500 years. Today, the village remains faithful to its denomination, accessible from now on tourists of the whole world come to admire famous “the Hôtel of ice” or “Arctic Hotel” and to spend the night sometimes there. This astonishing winter hotel is rebuilt each year with more 1 500 tons of ice. The interior temperature remains constant (between -3°C and -8°C), whatever the outside temperature. About the months of April and May, the sun begins its work of demolition.
