Biography
Initially violinist, it studied the direction of orchestra to the Académie Sibelius with Jorma Panula, in the same class as Esa-Pekka Salonen and Osmo Vänskä.Saraste was recruited with the Symphony orchestra of the Finnish radio like second violin, then as associated chief near Leif Segerstam, before becoming principal chief of 1987 to 2001. With this orchestra, it recorded by twice the complete cycle of the symphonies of Jean Sibelius.
With Esa-Pekka Salonen and Olli Pohjola, Jukka-Pekka Saraste created the chamber orchestra Avanti! in 1983. It also founded the festival Tammisaari .
Chief principal guest of the Symphony orchestra of the BBC of 2002 to 2005.
In December 2006, the Symphony orchestra of Lahti announced that Saraste would occupy the station to advise artistic orchestra of 2008 to 2011, like that of artistic director of the Festival Sibelius with Lahti in 2008.
