Juilliard School

The Juilliard School (or the Juilliard ) is a private school of Spectacle of New York of international reputation. Its buildings are currently located at the Lincoln Center. It accommodates each year 800 students in its sections Musique, Danse and Dramatic art.

History

The school was created in 1905 under the name of Institute off Musical Art and initially was located at the angle of the Fifth avenue and the twelfth street. The first promotion counted 500 students. In 1910, the school moved for Claremont Avenue. In 1920, was created the Juilliard Foundation . The Juilliard Graduate School of the foundation off amalgamated with the Institute Musical Art in 1926. In 1946, the unit was renamed Juilliard School off Music . The school was then chaired by William Schuman, the first prize winner of the Prix Pulitzer of the music. The school diversified then by creating sections dances and dramatic art. In 1969, it moved for Lincoln Center and was renamed Juilliard School. In 2001, the school opened a section Jazz.

Organization

Juilliard School is organized today in three departments: the section music, the section dramatic art, and the section dances. It also has a common program with Barnard College of the Université Columbia.

There exist several auditoriums and theaters, of which most notable are the Alice Tully Hall, the Peter Jay Sharp Theater, and the Paul Hall, which make it possible to listen to several times per week (and generally in free entry) the concerts of great quality of the students.
