Juhuri
The juhuri , juwri or judéo- tat is the traditional language of the Juhuro , the Juifs of the mountains of the East of the the Caucasus, in Azerbaïdjan and with the Dagestan. In this language, juhuri means Jewish and Juhuro, the Juif S.
This language is a close relationship of the Persan, it belongs to the group of the South-west of the Iranian branch of the Indo-European Langues. It is close, but different, of the spoken language by Tats Moslems and Christians.
The juhuri comprises Semitic elements (Hebrew/Arab Araméen/) on all the linguistic levels, in particular its Hebrew " ayin" (ע) whereas none the close languages knows it.
At the beginning of the 20th century, the juhuri was written in Hebrew characters, then in the years 1920 in a adapted Latin alphabet, and finally in Cyrillic characters. Recently, the use of the Hebrew alphabet knows a certain renewal of popularity.
The Ethnologue.com site estimates, without mentioning source, the number of speakers of this language with 101.000, that is to say:
- Israel: 70.000
- Azerbaïdjan : 24.000
- Russia: 7.000
