Judicaël

Judicaël is a male Prénom of origin Breton sometimes seen in the Judikael form. Contracted forms: Juhel or Jikel (or Gicquel). Form more recent: Gaël (it).

The name is formed on the old man Breton iud (= combatant, then chief, lord) and on hael (= magnanime), the suffix - ic having been inserted to differentiate it from his/her father Judhaël.

This name was carried by king de Domnonée in VIIe century (become holy, celebrated the December 17th), and a king of the north of Brittany from 877 to 888.
