Judeţ de Arad
Arad is a department (Judeţ of Romania) located at the west, partially in Transylvania, partially in Banat, with the chief town with Arad. It has as neighbors the Hungary, as well as the departments of Bihor, Alba, Hunedoara, Timiş. He is member of eurorégion DKMT (the Danube - Criş- Mureş - the Tisza).
History
The area initially belonged to the Dacie. Ziridava (today the commune of Pecica) was an important city of the Daces.- 1241 : The Mongolian invasion of the Kingdom of Hungary highlighted the need for having defensive fortifications in the area of Arad. Castle-forts were built in the second part of XIIIe century in Şoimoş, Şiria and Dezna.
- 1551 : Arad is occupied by the Ottoman Empire
- 1699: Arad is under the domination of the Habsbourg, kings of Austria
- 1913: first electric railroad of and eighth Eastern Europe of the world on the way Arad-Podgoria
- December 1st 1918, union of Transylvania with Romania.
The department was formed during the administrative division of 1968. It includes/understands territories which belonged to the old administrative areas Banat and Crişana

Geography
The relief goes down from the East to the West, while starting with the slopes of Carpates Occidentaux (1109 m) to the plain of the West.Water:

The basement contains oilfields.
Economy
Since 2000, industry became the principal sphere of activity in the department. Agriculture still plays a big role in the employment of the population, follow-up of the services.Principal branches:
