Juan Yagüe
Juan Yagüe Blanco (1891 - 1952) was a Spanish general nationalist during the Guerre of Spain of 1936 - 1939.
Wire of doctor, Yagüe between very young person to the academy of infantry of Tolède where it makes knowledge with the junior Francisco Franco. He are used together for the Morocco where Yagüe is wounded and decorated on multiple occasions.
In 1932, Yagüe is promoted Lieutenant-Colonel.
In 1934, it takes part in the repression of the revolt of the Asturies on order of the republican government at the side of the Franco general and the general López Ochoa.
It engages politically by supporting the Spanish Phalange of his friend Jose Antonio Primo de Rivera.
After the victory of the Spanish Popular front and the replacement in May 1936 of the president Niceto Alcalá Zamora by Manual Azaña, it enters the military plot which joins together the generals Emilio Mola, Francisco Franco, Gonzalo Queipo de Llano and Jose Sanjurjo.
The July 17th 1936, military rising marks the beginning of the Spanish Civil war.
The armed forces of Yagüe take the command of the town of Ceuta on the Moroccan coast before crossing the Straits of Gibraltar and rejoining the nationalist forces directed by Queipo de Llano with Seville.
Its troops (3000 nationalist soldiers) take Mérida then attack the town of Badajoz the August 14th 1936. Heavy losses are caused of share and others.
Promoted Colonel after his victory with Badajoz, Yagüe took again its road towards Madrid and in way conquers the towns of Trujillo, Navalmoral of Mata and Talavera of Reina. In way, many republican prisoners are shot under its orders. Its offensive must end before reaching the Spanish capital when Franco stops the projection of the nationalist troops and their request to help the colonel Jose Moscardó and nationalists cut off and besieged in Alcázar de Tolède. Disapproving this decision, Yagüe is replaced by Jose Enrique Varela and has to carry out the nationalist offensive in Aragón where it will take again the localities of Belchite, Caspe and Lérida that disputed nationalist and republican combatants.
Juan Yagüe has a central role at the time of the Bataille of Ebre which is concluded by a nationalist victory and these are the troops which will enter Barcelona overcome.
After the fall of the republic in March 1939, it is promoted general and becomes the Minister for the air of the August 11th 1939 with the June 27th 1940 in the government of the Franco general.
In 1943, Juan Yagüe deals with the general harbor office of the 6th military region located at Burgos where he will die the October 29th 1952.
A statue commemorates its memory in its native village of San Leonardo de Yague (Province of Soria).
