Juan Vitalio Acuña Núñez , known as “Vilo” (January 27th, 1925 - August 31st, 1967) was guerillas who took part in the cuban revolution and died at the time of the attempt at establishment of a guerilla in Bolivia.

Biography

Cuban peasant, it becomes guerillas with the whole beginning of the cuban Révolution shortly after the unloading of Fidel Castro and Che Guevara.

After the first combat of the barracks of El Uvero, it makes party of the five men who escort the casualties several weeks in the jungle with Che Guevara and Juan Almeida Bosque. It makes lieutenant the same day or Guevara is named commander. It takes part in all the combat of the guerilla and saves the life of Camilo Cienfuegos, when this one is wounded while carrying it in a Hamac transformed into Brancard.

Vilo Acuña is named captain by Fidel Castro and Che after one year in the guerilla and ordering in November 1958 which directs its own column.

It enters with Fidel Castro on January 9th, 1959 to Havana.

It is graduate university of war in 1964 and designated member of the central committee of the cuban revolutionary party.

Vilo Acuña is 42 years old in 1966 when it is named by Che Guevara second for forwarding in Bolivia under the name of code of “Joaquín”. April 17th, 1967 its section which comprises casualties remains to be waited the back of that of Che but must give up its position shortly after. The two sections will never join again contact and Vilo Acuña dies cut down on August 31st by the troops of the Bolivian government, probably betrayed by its guide. In this ambush the only woman of the guerilla dies Bolivian, Tamara Bunke known as " Tania".
