Juan Pujol (alias Garbo)
The officinal consound ( Symphytum officinal ), or common comfrey , is the species characteristic of the kind Symphytum . It presents many varieties and Hybride easily, this last characteristic having been used in Agronomie as in Horticulture. The limits of definition of the species are not fixed besides in a final way (see the article on the Consoude S). It is a plant useful and used for a long time, at the same time for the agricultural production, its therapeutic virtues and the approval of the gardens.
It is the only example known in the vegetable kingdom of production (as a secondary Métabolite) of Vitamine B12.
Description
The consound is large a Hardy perennial from 30 to 130 cm, in large colonies.Its large Feuille S (up to 40 cm length on 15cm broad) is alternate, pointed, stiff glazes of hairs, being prolonged on the stem.
Its Fleur S dew with clear crimson, grouped in Cyme uniparous Scorpioïque at the top of the branches, flowers at semi May.
Its Fruit S is composed of 4 Akène S smooth and brilliances.
Attention before flowering, the sheets of Digital, very poisons could be confused with those of consound but with the touch the digital one is woolly and soft whereas the consound is rough
Use
food
- the very young sheets still tender can be crossed finely and added to salads, which preserves their wealth of B12 vitamin.
- the sheets can be cooked in soups, out of vegetables, fritters.

the sheets, rich in Protein S and Minéraux can replace perfectly the use of spinach S in a variety of culinary preparations, in more the consound does not have the defect of spinaches to become toxic under influence prolonged with the influence of the air.
Had with the high protein contents which the consound contains, it can, as in Australia, being a very good food complement for the Bétail. Its culture is easy and very good market since it does not need particular care to thrive.
Green manure
The Consound is used like green Manure in Organic farming. A little place of garden reserved for the Consound of Russia can be collected per annum several times, getting a considerable quantity of green materials rich in mineral matters usable in various ways (Purin, Mulch, Compost) to increase the fertility of the ground and the growth of the plants.
Medicinal properties
The consound is emollient, astringent and expectorante.Its Alcaloïde is not toxic with the amounts which it is possible to consume.
In external use, it is healing.
In interior and external application, the consound accelerates, thanks to its content of Allantoïne, the formation of new cells, as well in the skin as in osseous masses. Studies proved that fractures cured much more quickly by applying consound.
