Juan Jose Ibarretxe
Juan Jose Ibarretxe Markuartu is a Basque politician , born on March 15th, 1957 with Laudio (Álava). It directs the Parti nationalist Basque (PNV) and the Basque autonomous Communauté to the Basque Country since January 2nd, 1999. He is married in Begoña Arregui, with which he has two children. He is a large amateur of bicycle and even chaired a club cyclist Llodio. Ibarretxe grew by speaking only the Spanish language but now usually speaks the language Basque.
Political career
It holds a diploma in economic scenes of the Université of the Country-Basque (out of Basque: Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea ). In 1983, he was elected member of the Basque Parliament for Llodio, representing the PNV, and he gradually assembled the levels inside his party before becoming the chief about it. He was mayor of his birthplace of 1983 to 1987. From 1986 to 1990 and 1991 to 1994 he was the president of the economic commission and budgetary PNV. January 4th, 1995, Basque president Jose Antonio Ardanza indicated it as vice-president. He was named presidential candidate of the PNV on March 28th, 1998 for the electoral poll of October 25th, 1998.January 2nd, 1999, it becomes the Lehendakari or chair the autonomous Community of the Country-Basque. In October 2003, he proposed the plane Ibarretxe or rather a Proposition for the cohabitation in the Basque Country with the Spanish government which envisages a future state (the Pays Basque), " freely associé" in Spain, with its own separated legal system and a representation within the European Union (UE). Javier Solana, chief Spanish of the foreign politics of the EU, in February 2005, answered that the plan cannot in no case to be proposed like treaty in the European constitution.
With the regional elections of April 17th, 2005, Ibarretxe lost the majority but it was in charge of the formation of the new government. June 23rd, 2005, it was chosen by a simple majority for the third time at the position of president of the Council. It received only 34 votes and the candidate Patxi López, from the Spanish working Socialist party (PSOE) obtained 33 from them; however, an absolute majority of 38 votes was necessary.
