Its beginnings

Juan Carlos has started to play tennis with Eduardo, its father, which took it along one night of October 1989 at Antonio Martinez Cascales whose reputation had crossed the grids of Tennis Club of Villena to arrive, thirty kilometer further, at the village of Onteniente. At 14 years, it leaves its house and settles initially at its coach then with the Academy. Two years later, his/her mother dies of a cancer and Juan Carlos thinks of stopping tennis. It continues despite everything its career and dedicates from now on all its victories to him. During these seven years, Juan Carlos is world champion in her category of age by twice, to 13 and 14 years, and gains prestigious tournaments such as “the Small Princes” in July - August 1993 and “the Small Aces” in January 1994.

Court of large

Its career among juniors continues with very as much success, with in particular a noticed final with Roland Garros, unfortunately lost vis-a-vis Chilean Fernando Gonzalez. The same year, at 18 years, he becomes pro, and very quickly, accumulates the good performances which enable him to be found with the 43e row of classification ATP to the end of the year 1999. With, in point of organ, its two victories as a challenger in Maïa and Naples, but especially that with the tournament of Majorque, against its compatriot Alex Corretja. He is elected “revelation of the year 1999” by his pars, at the time of the traditional official reception of the ATP in Monte Carlo. He is part from now on of the world elite and makes tremble largest, even on other surfaces that the beaten ground. In 2001, it gains 4 titles: Rome (beaten ground), Dubai (hard), Estoril (beaten ground) and Barcelona (beaten ground). It has with its credit two semi-finals, Roland Garros and Bercy, and of course the championship victory Davis with the team of Spain. In 2002, it gains the tournament on ground beaten of Monte Carlo and that on hard of Hong-Kong. After two lost semi-finals with Roland Garros, it is qualified finally for the final, where it is made beat in 4 sets by his compatriot Albert Costa, whereas it was grandissime favorite. A beautiful course all the same for Ferrero which until the last moment have-with cause of a wound be dubious for the tournament, with in particular a memorable victory vis-a-vis its rival eternal Gaston Gaudio and a sublime shock of the generations gained vis-a-vis a legend of tennis: Andre Agassi. Qualified for the Masters Cup of Shangaï (tournament bringing together the 8 best world players), it reaches the final where it is beaten in 5 sets and 3:52 by the world n°1, Hewitt, after having had 2 set points to the second set, which could have enabled him to carry it. Its dream? “I always dreamed to gain Roland Garros, I would like that one remembers me like one of the best players the History, and I work for the History”.

The dream is carried out on June 8th, 2003, with its victory over Martin Verkerk. But in 2004, of the wounds with repetitions (with the back in particular) and chicken pox stop its progression. it must observe several periods of rest during which it will lose its confidence little by little. This one will fly away on April 19th, 2004 completely when, after its match lost 6/2 6/3 vis-a-vis Alex Corretja, it completely will be destabilized and demoralized by this against-performance. Its close relations will have done everything to comfort it but nothing made there, something had changed into Juan Carlos. It had acquired the conviction that it had carried out beautiful things and that it had carried out two of its dreams: To be world number 1 and to gain Roland Garros, made things. This is why, it is also any more cut down by the defeats only formerly… In 2005 and until today, it will not have gained the least title but will have reached several finales all the same. All its fans wait until it is started again completely and that its level of 2003 re-appears to show with all those which buried it that it is always there! … The ex world number one, eclipsed today by the young person and charismatic Rafael Nadal, on several occasions carried out blows of glares (quarterfinal in Wimbledon, semi-final in Monte Carlo, victory vis-a-vis Rafael Nadal…), of too short durations alas to allow him to return at the top, but ensuring a classification to him varying the one year old wire between fifteenth and the thirtieth world place and ensuring to him a row of head of series in the majority of the tournaments.

It should be noted that for a few years, Ferrero has been the owner of the tournament ATP of Valence. (Spain)
