Juan Bautista Jose Cabanilles , baptized on September 6th, 1644 with Algemési (area of Valence) and died on April 29th, 1712 with Valence, was a Organiste and Spanish Compositeur.
Cabanilles probably began its career of Musicien like Choriste of the church of his birthplace. Thereafter it accepted the instruction necessary to the priesthood with the cathedral of Valence, which included a musical formation.
May 15th 1665, then 20 years old, it was named temporary organist of the cathedral. One year later, the holder being deceased, it accepted his load. It was ordered priest on September 22nd, 1668. He exerted his function of organist during 45 years, but as from 1703, was assisted and often replaced for health reasons. From 1675 to 1677 it was also responsible for the training of the young chorus-singers of the cathedral.
Many works of Cabanilles are parts of virtuosity and daring design. Most of its manuscripts is preserved at the Biblioteca de Catalunya. Among the works arrived to us, of many parts for Organ: Tiento S, Toccata S, Passacaille S etc, as well as vocal parts including some with 13 vote.
Cabanilles is regarded as one of the large Spanish type-setters.
Registration:
“Tiento of octavo tono” (tiento of the 8th tone). Of a rare difficulty, it is a quartet (two votes per hand) which does not leave only one moment of respite to the organist.
