JuK

JuK is a audio reader free. From the release of version 3.2 of KDE, it forms of it integral part within the package kdemultimedia. It supports the formats audios MP3, Ogg Vorbis and FLAC.

History

JuK was started with Scott Wheeler in 2000 and was originally called QTagger .

In 2002, the application was introduced into CVS of KDE and strongly evolved/moved. It was officially integrated in version 3.2 of KDE.

Functions

Juk is not that a simple music player, it also fulfills the functions of Jukebox and allows the management of music files. Its principal functions are the following ones:
  • collection and management of lists of reading of several users
  • research and automatic importation of lists of reading (files .m3u) and music files
  • automatic research of the lists of readings and updates of that Ci
  • seen in the form of tree structure of lists of readings generated according to the albums, artists and kinds
  • historical allowing to know which were the files read and when it were to it
  • capacity to extract information on the music (name of the singer, titrates, album, etc) according to the structure of the name of the files, or by the consultation in line of MusicBrainz
  • re-elects the files according to their marks (tags)
  • reading and edition of the marks ID3 (version 1 and 2) and Ogg Vorbis thanks to TagLib
  • uses the audio engine ARts or optionnellement GStreamer

He is often regarded as a lighter version in functions compared to the other principal audio reader for KDE, amaroK.
