Joys of the Yiddish

Joys of the Yiddish (in English: The Joys off Yiddish ) is a Lexique of terms and current occurrences of the terms which were employed in the language of the American not Jews, by influence of the American Juif S. It was published for the first time in 1968 by Leo Rosten, was republished in 2001 by Lawrence Bush and was translated into French by Victor Kuperminc.

This book had a particular success because of its manner own to explain the significance of the idioms Yiddish by the means of the Humor and the Anecdote, even of the joke. Thus in the article Peysah' (where at the time of the meal of Séder the youngest guest must put four traditional questions), this quotation: “Although Peysah' returns only once per annum, the Jews put questions all the year. ”

In addition to being rather reliable, this book thus acts also as anthology of Jewish Humor.
