Josey Wales outlaw
The Outlaw Josey Wales ( Josey Wales outlaw ) is a American Film carried out by Clint Eastwood in 1976.
In 1986, the actor-realizer Michael Parks turns a continuation, The Return off Josey Wales.
Synopsis
Josey Wales quietly cultivates its field in Missouri when the irregular northerners of Kansas of the Terrill captain emerge, sets fire to its ranch and massacres its family. A band of partisans Southerners arriving a little later it follows it. But the South is overcome and the Fletcher Southerner announces an amnesty with the partisans who will deposit the weapons. In fact, it is a trap: at the time of rendering, at the time when the partisans lend oath to the Union, one cuts down them with the machine-gun. Escape from it only Josey Wales, which had refused to go (it is very being wary, which will save the life to him several times), and a young franc-tireur which is wounded besides. Josey Wales in the business having massacred a large package of Northerners, its head is put at price and a northerner detachment ordered by Terrill and guided by Fletcher (which had been misled like the others but knows the vindicatory temperament of Wales) takes it in hunting. Escaping beaten, the fugitive ones manage to cross Missouri then to liquidate two imprudent which thought of capturing them. The young partisan dies shortly after and Josey Wales, being found only, decides to take refuge side of Texas. In the course of road, it associates an old Indian chief dispossessed by Washington and which tried to capture it, then a young Indian rejected by her tribe and treated as a slave by a trafficker (killing with the passage two trappers too undertaking), then an old dog, then an old woman (and her little girl) whose son, who was one of irregular of Kansas, but was killed by the franc-tireurs Southerners, had a splendid ranch in Texas. Right before this meeting, Josey Wales cuts down four hesitant Northerners (because it became the most famous gunner of the West) which had the bad luck to cross its way and right after it exterminates a whole band of comancheros has just massacred the convoy of the old woman. All this small world thus arrives at destination: alas, the city is quasi-deserted (Josey Wales will have nevertheless to cut down one of the two bargain hunters still there which awaited it there, the survivor will seek reinforcements) because the inhabitants left it following the exhaustion of its money mine; remain only one saloon where one does not have anything any more to drink, where the professional player makes successes and where the entraîneuse one does not involve anybody any more. The marvellous ranch (makes some, a half-desert) is abandoned. The old woman takes possession of the places but this displeases in Comanches neighbors which, not wanting to see White settling, remove two employees engaged by the old woman. Josey Wales manages to save them and conclude an agreement with Comanches, enemies of Washington and who heard of his exploits. Although invited to remain, he prefers to set out again. But Northerner and bargain hunters, having linked their forces, await it. This time, however, Josey Wales will be helped by all his/her companions and the totality of the enemy troop. Spoil heap, unpleasant Nordiste which had attacked the farm of Josey Wales at the beginning, only manages to flee but Wales continues it and breaks it with its own saber.
Later, of the rangers of Texas and Fletcher, also arrived at the village, intend themselves to tell that Josey Wales was killed in a brawl in Mexico. The business is thus closed for the authorities. As for Fletcher, which is not easily deceived, it makes pretense not recognize Josey Wales and sets out again. The war is finished.
Comments
As it is seen, this western is extremely charged in events: one is not bored a second during the two hours of film. The summary above gives only one weak idea of the richness of the details of each episode and those are extremely varied: honest farmer, actions of war, partisans, soldiers regular, rotted politicians, trappers, attacks of gangsters, duels, brawls, bargain hunters, Indians deposed or unsubdued, hawkers, traffickers, civil froussards, opportunist or unconscious, player and entraîneuse of saloon, vat of river, convoy of colonists, Mexicans, forests of north, meadows of the east, deserts of the south, phantom city, money mine, all the traditional ingredients of the western intervene or are represented (except the religious element and the attack of diligence), including, of course, the hero silent (but equipped with a certain humor) with the Colts exterminators. In spite of the length of film, one is not bored at any time: independently of an attaching history (some see an initiatory voyage there), Josey Wales outlaw is a remarkable synthesis of the western, a very complete table of the kind; the autonomy of each episode gives him a film pace with sketches. The destruction of the farm which opens film has as a historical substrate the methodical devastation of Virginia by the irregular northerners of the general Grant (who praised himself some in his correspondence) while the partisans Southerners to which joint Josey Wales represent the guerilla of William Quantrill, which was caught some in Kansas four years during. In film, their chief is called Bill Anderson, alias Bill the Butcher , reference thus to Bill Anderson which was illustrated at the sides of Quantrill.
The machine-gun used at the beginning is many tubed Gatling with crank appeared in 1865, therefore perhaps very slightly anachronistic. One sees it in some westerns to change the spectator of the 6-blows and other Winchester. Its flow obviously rather weak was compared with the modern weapons but its very large gauge (from 11 to 25 mm according to the models) killed practically all those which it touched.
The troop which attacks the hero in one of the last scenes takes there very badly, attacker with horse and with discovered posted and embusqués gunners. It is an easy way of scenario writer whom one finds in several old westerns to cancel the usual numerical superiority of the malicious ones, and which here is not believable since they are professionals.

- the film was to be put in scene by Philip Kaufman. It was replaced after a few days of turning by Eastwood. It is me which had urged it to rewrite script and to carry out it. Its work of scenario writer was excellent, but with turning it proved that our points of view differed completely. I had invested my personal money to buy the rights of the book, passed much of time to develop this project, conceived a precise vision of what was to be the film. The approach of Phil was undoubtedly founded, perhaps better, but it was not mine, and I would be desired if the result had not corresponded so that I hoped .
