Josette Sheeran

Josette Sheeran , an American diplomat born in 1954, is the eleventh managing director of the World food program of the the United Nations since March 2007. She was named at this station by the General secretary Kofi Annan and the managing director of FAO (United Nations for the food and agriculture), Jacques Diouf, the November 7th 2006. Before engaging with WFP, it was under Secretary of State to the economic affairs, commercial and agricultural in the Administration Bush, a station which it occupied starting from the August 23rd 2005.

Course/Track records

Josette Sheeran was director of drafting to the The Washington Times and worked in a technological firm with Wall Street, where it carried out operations with companies such as Bank off America , Citibank and Associated Press .

Its first experiment as a journalist was with the network News World of New York in 1976. In 1982, it started to work for the Washington Times and became later director of drafting. She interviewed ten Heads of States, of which president Nord-Coréen Kim II Sung.

After being itself dedicated to journalism, it was representing associated of the United States for the foreign trade and to taken part in many international negotiations, in particular of the initiatives to support the rebuilding and the development in Afghanistan and Central Asia. It also took part in the installation of development and supplementary programmes in countries such as China, Pakistan, India and Lebanon. Following the Earthquake of October 8th, 2005 which devastated the Cachemire in Pakistan, it organized a group of American managers of undertaking so that they bring helps to this country, and, in 2006, it helped with the collection of gifts intended to rebuild the Lebanon after the israélo-Lebanese Conflit of 2006.

It also contributed to the creation of the Société of the Millenium whose mission is to help the developing countries to achieve the reduction objectives of poverty and the Sous-alimentation.

As an executive director of WFP, Mrs. Sheeran is found with the head of the largest humanitarian organization in the world, with a personnel of almost 11.000 people.

UNO estimates that today approximately 850 million people in the whole world suffers from the hunger and malnutrition. The great majority of the victims are women and children.

Mrs. Sheeran considers that chronic malnutrition can be overcome and affirmed its engagement towards the attack of the primary goal of the Millenium for the development, that to reduce per half extreme poverty and the hunger.

Decreed associations/prices

Josette Sheeran is member of the Conseil of the foreign relations since the years 1990 and belonged to her Advisory committee in Washington. In 1997, it was named one of the 100 most powerful women of Washington, by the magazine Washingtonian . She also took part in many councils, of which the Washington Urban League and the Negro College Fund' S Washington advisory board . She also received many prices, of which the Close Award for Journalistic Achievement by the National Order off Women Legislators .

Private life

She is currently divorced and at summer member the Église the Unification until 1997 before entering the episcopal Église of the United States of America.
