Joseph of the Door , born the January 21st 1714 with Belfort and dead the December 19th 1779, is a Religieux, Critique arts person, Poète and Dramaturge French.

Belonging to the order of the Jesuit S, the abbot of the Door had initially worked with some periodic works, in company with Fréron and, inter alia, with the literary Year . Temporarily scrambled with Fréron, the abbot of the Door started, in 1758, to publish the literary Observer . The first sheet of this periodic writing for the year 1761, about which Voltaire, enemy relentless of Fréron, spoke like “masterpiece in its kind”, contained an article on the literary Year , newspaper where the abbot of the Door saw “a intention made of censured, to degrade, of décrier masterpieces, and our most famous writers placed below the most obscure literary men.

Prolific author, the abbot of the Door also wrote a very great number of works and compilations. Its first writing was the Voyage to the stay of the shades , work of criticism which had some success. It made then a periodic publication entitled Observations on the modern literature where it endeavoured to contradict Fréron.
