Joseph Wolf (January 22nd 1820 - April 20th 1899) was a German Artiste .

Wolf was the son of a Fermier and was born with Munstermaifeld on the Rivière the Moselle in the area from Eiffel. During its childhood, it was student assiduous for what related to the Vie Oiseau X and animal and showed remarkable capacities to draw the subjects in Natural history. At sixteen years, it went to Coblentz to work for a company of Lithographie, then in 1840 it left to Frankfurt. There it provided the illustrations for the birds of the North-East of Africa ( Birds off Northeast Africa ) of Eduard Rüppell (1794-1884). It went then to Darmstadt where it worked for the director of the Musée of natural history, Johann Jakob Kaup (1803-1873). Its talent was then recognized by Hermann Schlegel (1804-1884) of the museum of Leyde, which engaged it as illustrator.

In 1848 it left for London where it worked with the British Museum by illustrating the Genres of the birds ( Genera off Birds ) George Robert Gray (1808-1872). It remained in London until its death. It made many drawings for the Zoological Society off London and of very many illustrations for books of natural history and voyages of various countries. It also met a considerable success as painter.
