Joseph Rous

Joseph Rous is a French politician born on May 28th, 1881 with Prades and died on July 30th, 1974 with Ax-the-Thermal baths.

Biography

Wire of small industrialists, Joseph Rous makes studies of right to Toulouse. After having obtained its license, in 1903, it is registered with the bar of the Court of Appeal of this city. It supports its doctorate in 1908. In February 1911, it adheres to SFIO.

After having fought during the First World War, in the 53e battalion of infantry, wounded and decorated (see below) Joseph Rous falls under section SFIO of its native commune, and contributes to the reconstitution of the Socialist party after the Congrès of Turns. In 1931, he is elected general adviser, and in 1932, is appointed. With the Room, it belongs to the commission of the Customs and the commission of the Pensions.

He becomes also president of the trade union of the channel of Bohère, and for this reason plays a big role in the development of the cultures irrigated in Roussillon. The strong tensions with Jean Payra lead to his exclusion of the SFIO in October 1936, but it is reinstated as of August 1937, the death of Payra having alleviated the oppositions within the Catalan Socialist party.

Re-elected in 1936, the Rous deputy takes the defense of the republicans during the war of Spain.

July 10th, 1940, it vote against the full powerss with Philippe Pétain. This vote is worth to him to be narrowly supervised by the Régime of Vichy during all the Second world war.

After the Release, Joseph Rous is again general adviser, of 1949 on 1955, date to which it withdraws political life.
