Joseph Right Scaliger
Joseph Right Scaliger , wire of Jules César Scaliger, was born in 1540 with Agen, and died in 1609.
Biography
It exceeded by far his father like Philologue, and was made moreover a name as chronologist and historian. It was some time tutor in a noble family close to Tours, then traversed the France, the Germany, the Italy, the Scotland, and embraced the reformed religion (1562); it was called with the Academy of Leyde in 1593, like successor of Juste Lipse.One looks it like the true creator of the chronological Science and in particular of the Julienne period (in homage to her father), used in astronomy, which allows a dating independent of the calendar in force. Full with vanity like his father, he claimed, in a letter entitled: Of vetustate gentis Scaligerae , to make go up its nobility to the kings Alains. It also had, like his father, of sharp quarrels with several of its contemporaries, in particular with Scioppius.
