Joseph Quesnel

Joseph Quesnel (Saint-Malo, France, 1746 - Montreal, 1809) is a type-setter, violonist, playwright, Canadian poet and director of theatrical troop. It composed of the poems, songs, duets, Motet S, quartets and Symphonies. In addition to several literary works, remain the vocal parts of two operas, Colas and Colinette and Lucas and Cécile , as well as the part of the second violin and the booklet of the first opera.

It is established with Montreal (Quebec, Canada) in 1779. Its works are among the first made up operas in North America; Colas and Colinette (1789) are the first comic opera whose composition and a representation takes place in Quebec. It will be presented again in 1805 and 1807.

A street of the district of the Rivers of the town of Quebec bears the name of street Quesnel in its honor
