Joseph Paris Duverney
Joseph Paris known as Duverney or Of Verney or Of Vernay “of the name of a field close to their house”, born the April 10th 1684 with Moirans (Isere) and dead the July 17th 1770, is a Financier French.
Third of the four Brothers Paris, it joined joined them in Paris.
In February 1703, it begins its career as supplier with the armies before becoming Garde Store with Mons of 1706 to 1715. Then, in a triumvirate made up of Crozat and Samuel Bernard, it was to regulate the continuations of the bankruptcy of the Système of Law. Under the ministry for the duke of Bourbon, it profits from the support of the Marquise from Requests and proposes a new tax, fiftieth in kind and many edicts, as much of measurement which caused the opposition of the Parliament of Paris. Jules Michelet us left the following portrait of it:
“the winner of Law, the been obstinated calculator, the Master of Scale, the hard surgeon of the operation of the Visa, was not an ordinary man. he fills up a whole century of his activity. Mountain dweller, soldier, supplier, it had all his life the air of a large peasant, savage and soldier. Pompadour called it: “My large simpleton. ” At the bottom he liked the businesses for the businesses much more than for the money. He handled billion and left a poor fortune. No concern of the honors. It took other titles only that of secretary of the commands of Mr. the duke Bourbon”. ( COp cit. p. 25)
One owes him the creation of the Military academy, of which he was the first intendant. Uncle of the Norman one of Étiolles, it is since 1759 the guard and the creditor of Beaumarchais which it initiates in the business world in exchange of favors near the Court and commercial and financial missions, with the example of that of which it discharges in 1764 in Spain. He died at the age of quatre-vingt-sept years, without posterity and was buried in the vault of the Military academy. Its executor, the count of Blache, was to return in lawsuit with Beaumarchais (see the Affaire Goëzman).
