Joseph Monier
Born on November 8th, 1823 with Saint-Quentin-the-Pottery, in the Gard - died on March 12th, 1906 with Paris.
He is regarded as the inventor of the Reinforced concrete for which he deposited several patents: in particular, in 1867, a patent on cases in Cement armed with Iron for the Horticulture. (See for more details on these patents the http://fr.structurae.de site with the article " Monier")
Gardener of profession, it invented the Reinforced concrete by seeking a means of producing orange tree pots (pots of the park of the Dukes of Uzès) less expensive and more resistant.
(The metal structure of the reinforced concrete is called besides " moniereisen" , iron of Monier, in German).
