Joseph Ludwig Colmar
Joseph Ludwig Colmar (Strasbourg, June 22nd, 1760 - Mainz, December 15th 1818) was the first bishop of Mainz after the Concordat of 1801 and the Sécularisation of 1803.
Life
After studies of Philosophy and Theology, Colmar is ordered priest on December 20th, 1783 with Strasbourg under the Diocèse of Strasbourg.refractory Priest, it found refuge at Louise Humann during the Terreur. This of Strasbourg, which was the older sister of Georges Humann, itself had studied theology and philosophy.
It is named in 1802 by Napoleon with the head of the diocese of Mainz, where Louise joined it. Art lover, it succeeds in saving destruction the Cathédrale Saint Martin's day of Mainz and his stalls Rococo. He persuaded also the emperor of the French not to demolish the Cathédrale of Whorl after the secularization of 1803.
