Joseph Larmor
Sir Joseph Larmor (July 1st 1857 - May 19th 1942) is a physicist, mathematician and politician Irish.
Biography
Larmor what is called publishes a form of now the Transformation of Lorentz in the Philosophical Transactions off the Royal Society in 1897, two years before Hendrik Lorentz and eight years before Albert Einstein. Larmor at least in the case of predicts also the Dilatation of time electron S in orbit. He checks that the Contraction the lengths must appear for the bodies whose atoms are bound by the electromagnetic Force. In its book Aether and Matter (1900) it again presents the transformations of Lorentz, the dilation of time and the contraction lengths, by treating them by the Dynamique rather than by their effects Cinématique S. Larmor rejects the curve of the Espace-temps and the theory of the General relativity, although it adheres to it for one short period, to the reason which an absolute time is essential in Astronomie.Larmor supports that the matter consists of elementary particles moving in ether. He thinks that the electric charges are particles, that he names electron S since 1897. In what appears to be the first mention of the dilation of time he writes “… the individual electrons describe their orbits in a time shorter than for the system rest with a ratio of (1 - v ² /c ²) 1/2" (Larmor 1897).
Larmor thinks that the flow of particles charged constitutes the Electric current conducting . He calculates the energy emitted by an electron in acceleration and he explains the spectral lines in a Magnetic field by oscillations of the electrons.
In 1919 it proposes that the sunspots have an action of Dynamo car-régénératice on the surface of the Sun.
Larmor is Professor lucasien mathematics with the Université of Cambridge of 1903 with 1932. In February 1911 it is elected at the Parliament of the the United Kingdom to the seat of the Université of Cambridge which existed at the time.
