Joseph Lamberton

Joseph Lamberton is a painter and Sculpteur French born in Saint Jean in Royans (Drome) the October 12th 1867 and died with Saint-Etienne the December 26th 1943. It was called the Renoir forézien.

Biography

If it were born in Drome, in the house of his maternal grandparents, Lamberton was the son of a metal engraver installed in Saint-Etienne. He studies initially at the regional School of the Industrial arts which trains professional artists for engraving on weapons or the drawing of ribbons then he goes up to Paris to follow the courses of the École of Beautiful arts in sculpture. He discovers painting, attends the Académie Julian in the workshops of Jean-Paul Laurens and Benjamin-Constant, côtoie Jacques-Emile Blanche and Rodin. Although its talents of colourist are appreciated, it will leave Parisian life and will settle in Saint-Etienne. He married in 1892 Adrienne Chapuson, also gifted for the art, which were to be a professor of drawing and painting at the Teacher training school teachers and the practical School of Trade and Industry of Saint-Etienne, and the collaborator of her husband. Their only son was to die of diphteria at the 11 years age.

Works

In Saint-Etienne, Lamberton was known before just like sculptor, decorating with the frontages of buildings in the style Art nouveau but especially carrying out monuments of which most important is the Monument of the French Memory to the cemetery of Crêt de Roc of Saint-Etienne (1910). Among its statues, most famous out of bronze represent Michel Rondet (1913) with Ricamarie and the MUSE of the Music in homage to Jules Massenet, originating in Saint-Etienne (1926). If the sculpture is its trade, painting is its passion. It exposes to the Living room of the French Artists of Paris of 1899 with 1907 as a painter and a not sculptor. One owes him of many decorative paintings of buildings, in particular in the church Saint-Louis (1930), in the room of the Marriages of the Town hall of Saint-Etienne (today called room Joseph Lamberton) and finally Cène for the church of Fouillouse (1941) which remained. As painter of rest, it practices above all the Portrait, the naked female and the Still life . Joseph Lamberton was also member of the Lyons Company of the Art schools and administrator of the Company of Arts of Drill.
