Joseph Hubert

Joseph Hubert is a scientist, erudite réunionnais, Botaniste and Naturaliste, was born with Saint-Benoît the April 23rd 1747 and died the April 19th 1825. He lived with Arm-Mussard then with the Boudoir. He marries in 1802 Gertrude Félicité Lebeau, from where a descent.
He is the great-uncle of Louis Henri Hubert Delisle, governor of the island of the Meeting.
First to explain the mechanism of the tropical cyclones, it acquired all its knowledge by observing nature.
There supported, with the Meeting, the culture of the coffee, the Muscade… He in addition introduced into the island the Ayapana, the Eastern saffron (Curcuma), its greater glory remains the multiplication of a giroflier dispatched by the intendant Pierre Poivre: this culture enriches the Coast with the wind during one half-century.
It was one of the creators of the district of Saint-Joseph.
It received in 1821 the gold medal of French Agriculture. To pay homage to him, the scientists named Hubertia ambavilla a plant called with the Réunion “ambaville”.
