Joseph Hanse

Joseph Hanse , born with Floreffe in 1902 and deceased with Watermael-Boitsfort in 1992, is a Belgian Grammairien of the French language.

In 1925, it finishes a doctorate in philosophy and letters with the catholic Université of Leuwen. Its thesis, devoted to the work of Charles De Coster is distinguished by the royal Académie from language and literature Frenchwomen.

Become teaching, it is devoted to the writing and the defense of the language. He is opposed to the Grammaire of the French Academy , which he describes as authoritative, and claims the creation of an institution higher than the Académie.

After the Second world war, it is at the origin of the international Biennales of the French language . It is during the first edition, behavior with Quebec, which is created the International counsel of the French language, which is chaired by Joseph Hanse of 1968 1991.

Become professor with UCL, it publishes in 1949 the first edition of the Dictionnaire of the grammatical and lexicological difficulties , followed various work which will become reference books for the French language, of which the Nouveau dictionary of the difficulties of modern French , appeared in 1983 and regularly republished since.

Joseph Hanse was member of the royal Académie of language and literature Frenchwomen of Belgium. He chaired the Superior council of the French language of Belgium and was distinguished by the Ordre from the French-speaking people from America.
