Joseph Gallagher
Joseph Gerald Gallagher (more known under the name of Joe Gallagher ) (May 4th 1964 -) is a player of failures. international Large-Master of British origin, it settled in Suisse of which it took nationality.
His/her parents Norah and Patrick are of Irish origin . Joe is the elder one of a family of 6 children (Catherine, Noreen, Pauline, Marie and Stephen) who all played failures. His/her Marie sister even played international level at the 11 years age. He played during several years on the European circuit while taking part in many open tournaments, before marrying and settling with Neuchâtel in Suisse where he took nationality Swiss and obtained the title of international Large-Master. He gained the British championship in 2001 and the Swiss championship in 1997, 1998, 2004, 2005 and 2007.
Its best classification is 2566 points Elo (reached on several occasions). With 2481 points in July 2007, it is currently classified 7th on the Swiss list, behind Vadim Milov (2675), Viktor Kortchnoï (2610), Mihajlo Stojanovic (2601), Yannick Pelletier (2591), Alexei Chernuschevich (2533) and Florian Jenni (2527). It belongs to the club of failures of Bienne Schachgesellschaft Biel , with which it gained several times the Swiss championship by team. It forms finally part of the Swiss national team and took part several times in the Olympiads of failures under the Swiss colors.
In parallel, he also played as a German national league , in particular with the club of Bremen (SV Werder Bremen).
Gallagher is also a famous author. It produced quantity of monographs on the theory of the openings. He is an expert of the Défense be-Indian with the blacks and made known himself and to fear for his work on the Gambit of the king.
Gallagher is also a player of Poker.
