Joseph-Zoël Cyr-Miquelon

Joseph-Zoël Cyr-Miquelon (Saint-Felix-with-Kingsey, February 11th 1834 - Wetaskawin, August 9th 1899), land-surveyor and poet, are one of the founders of the municipality of canton of Saint-Camille.

Biography

Wire of Pierre Miquelon and Marie-Anne Painchaud, Joseph-Zoël Cyr-Miquelon was born on February 11th, 1834 with Saint-Felix-of-Kingsey. Colonist at sixteen years, it was one of the first newcomers on the territory which would become later the canton of Saint-Camille.

He married Nancy Durning with Wotton in 1856, with which he had 8 children.

Very active in the community, Zoël Miquelon was director of work of the ways of colonization which opened in the area. During the erection of the canton of Saint-Camille in municipality in 1859, it was named secretary-treasurer, load which it fills during several years. February 18th, 1874, Zoël Miquelon was named guard-forester and the load until its departure for the Canadian west had some in June 1883.

At the time of his death which has occurred on August 9th, 1899, Mr. Miquelon lived the small town of Wetaskawin, in Alberta, of which it was one of the pioneers. Its service and its burial took place on August 11th with Saint-Albert.

The memories and works of Zoël Miquelon are preserved by the Crépeau family. Its writings accompanied people by his community without to have been the publication object.

In the parish of Saint-Camille , the abbot L. - has. Lévesque quotes an article paying homage to Zoël Miquelon before its departure towards the west Canadian and published in the Album of the families in 1883:

Mr. J. - Z. - C. Miquelon, from Saint-Camille of Wotton, advantageously known in this part of the country, comes to publish a poetry, full with feelings, at the time of its departure for the North-West. To have received only one education elementary, known as Sorelois , Mr. Miquelon does not have of it less one considerable sum of knowledge which it acquired through work. It was always distinguished for the facility with which it turns its worms and one can say of him that he is a true alive chansonnier. Heart sensitive and charitable, friendly sincere and devoted as one seldom meets some, Mr. Miquelon will be sincerely regretted by his/her many friends of the province of Quebec.

In spite of the distance, Zoël Miquelon remained always attached to its village as one to them to its poems entitled My Village testifies.
