Joseph-Napoleon Francoeur

Joseph-Napoleon Francoeur (December 13rd, 1880 in Quebec with Cape-Saint-Ignace - July 25th, 1965 in Quebec with Quebec) was a politician and a lawyer Québécois.

Biography

Originating in a family of farmers, he studies the right to the Université Laval and is allowed with the Barreau of Quebec in 1904.

He in particular was liberal Député of Lotbinière to the legislative Assemblée of Quebec of 1908 with 1936 and speaker of the legislative Parliament of 1919 to 1928. In the government of Louis-Alexandre Taschereau, he was public Minister for Labor of 1930 to 1936.

Following the Crisis of the conscription of 1917, it proposes a motion aiming at breaking the Canadian Confédération of 1867. This motion is never voted but it is retained by the souverainists like a precursory gesture with their political movement.

He dies in Quebec in 1965 and he is buried with Leclercville.
