Josef Hoffmann

Josef Hoffman (December 15th, 1870 with Pirnitz - May 7th, 1956 with Vienna) was an Austrian architect .

Biography

He made his studies of architect at the university of Vienna before remaining in Italy, which gave him a clear style, geometrical, reinforced with ornaments.

If he were the creator of the Sécession Viennese with Gustav Klimt, Josef Olbrich, Koloman Moser and Rudolph Bacher, inter alia, he represents the hinge between the Art nouveau and the Art Déco. Without to be in adequacy with these styles, Hoffmann is an architect of avant-garde which will influence in particular Adolf Loos (which will keep a clean style out of the Secession) and later Robert Mallet-Stevens. Ruhlemann and Paul Poiret studied at his sides.
