Josef Gočár

Josef Gočár (March 13rd 1880, Semín - September 10th 1945 Prague) is a Czechoslovakian Architecte, representing movement Cubiste and rondocubist.

Biography

His/her father is beer brewer.

Raise of Jan Kotěra to the École of the applied arts of Prague, he works with his Master of which he directs the workshop between 1905 and 1908.

From 1923 with its death he is professor of architecture to the Academy of the Art schools of Prague.

With Pavel Janák and Otakar Novotný and were to him the most important architects pedagogs of the generation post Kotěra. He is member of the artistic Cercle Mánes of 1905 to 1945 with an interruption between 1911 and 1917.

Always with Pavel Janák and Josef Chochol, it is one of the representatives of very first plan of the Czechoslovakian Cubisme, avant-garde which prepares functionalism. Towards end of the year 20, its works (its villas of the district of Baba in particular) tend towards functionalism even if Gočár forever be a functionalist architect to whole share.
