Jose de Anchieta (San Cristóbal of Laguna, March 19th 1534 - Iritiba, June 9th 1597) was a father Jesuit Spanish, founder of the town of São Paulo and béatifié by the Pape Jean-Paul II. He is called the “apostle of Brazil”.
Beatification
The countryside in favor of its beatification begins as of 1617 in the Capitainerie of Bay of All the Saints. It will be however béatifié only in June 1980, by the pope Jean-Paul II. The eagerness of the combat carried out against the Jesuits by the marquis de Pombal will have considerably slowed down the process started at the 17th century. ----
