Jose Ribamar Ferreira de Araújo Costa known as Jose Sarney (born the April 24th 1930 with Pinheiro, Maranhão, Brazil) was the president of the federative Republic of Brazil starting from the March 15th 1985 until the March 15th 1990.

Known under the name of Jose Sarney, it becomes president after the president elected Tancredo Neves was falls ill (it was operated urgently the March 14th 1985, a few hours before assuming his station, but only in April 1985 of the complications of its disease died). In the beginning, Sarney was to be the vice-president of the country, which returned to the democracy for the first time since 1964 and the beginning of the military regime.
