Jose Millán-Astray

Jose Millán-Astray Terreros was a Spanish Militaire there born the July 5th 1879 and dead on January 1st, 1954.

Born with Corogne (Spain), it took part in the war against the independence of the Filipino , it was professor of art of warfare to the Academy of Infantry. Sent to the Morocco, it ordered indigenous units and took part in various military operations, in which it lost an arm and an eye. It founded in 1920, with the support of the high commissioner of the Morocco, the general Damaso Berenguer, the Legion, with the characteristics similar to those of the French Foreign legion, in which young soldiers incorporated themselves, such Francisco Franco.

In 1921, the Legion came to break the seat on Melilla by Moroccan troops. Problems of personality moved away it from the command of the troops. It took part in the military rising of 1936 which led to the civil war, but it did not take part in the conspiracy.

He is the author of the pro-Franco rallying cry during the war of Spain “Viva the muerte”. He also launched “To dead the intelligence! ”, marked war cry in October 1936 against the philosopher Miguel de Unamuno with the University of Salamanque of which he was the vice-chancellor.

He dies in Madrid in 1954.
