Jose Impens

Jose Impens is a Belgian painter , mainly known as painter of interiors, scenes of kind, Portrait S and naked, born with Brussels in 1840 and deceased with Schaerbeek in 1905.

He was pupil of Jean-François Portaels with the royal Académie of the Art schools of Brussels (of 1853 with 1856 and of 1858 with 1861). He is characterized by the flexibility from sound Dessin and a pallet particularly coloured.

In 1893 it settled in Schaerbeek where it will reside until its death, successively Rue Josaphat 68, Rue of the Brabant 132, Avenue Rogier 365 and 111.

It carried out many scenes of inns and cabarets in the Brussels old man, but also of the interiors of workshops representing of the craftsmen to work. It painted moreover several Autoportrait S the representative painting, seen back, in its workshop.

It exposed to Brussels (1891 and 1896) and to Munich (1891 and 1894).

Its works are in particular exposed with the museums of Brussels, Liege and Dunkirk.

In 1909, in homage to this painter, the commune of Schaerbeek baptized one of its arteries of the name of Rue Jose Impens.
