Jose Hernández
Jose Hernández (November 10th, 1834 - October 21st, 1886) is a poet, journalist and politician Argentin considered as the national poet of the country.
Hernández, whose ancestors are Spanish, Irish, and French, is born in a farm close to San Martín, in the province of Buenos Aires. His/her father is Majordome in different Ranch S, which enables him to grow in contact with Gaúcho S, whose lifestyle, language and code of honor will forge its identity, and will influence it until its last days.
Between 1852 and 1872, it defends the autonomy of the provinces, against the central authorities of Buenos Aires. It takes part in the last rebellion of the gaúchos, which finishes in 1871 by a cruel defeat, involving the exile of Hernández.
After its return in Argentina in 1874, it continues its combat by other the political means, mainly newspapers and positions which it occupies. But it is by poetry that it will receive the greatest echo with its ideas, and that it will make its greater contribution to the cause of the Gaúcho S. Its poem epic Martín Fierro is regarded as one of major works of the Argentinian literature.
He succumbs to an heart attack on October 21st, 1886, in the town of Belgrano.
