Jose Dupuis

Joseph-Lambert known as " José" Dupuis is a actor and Chanteur Belgian, born in Liege (Belgium) the March 18th 1833, died in Nogent-sur-Marne on May 9th 1900.

It settles in Paris in 1851 when it begins with the Théâtre from Luxembourg-Bobino in 1854, before being discharged by Herve for his Madness-News in 1857. It remains there during the resumption of the theater by Virginia Déjazet in 1859 then passes, after about fifty creations among which the Weapons of Barber and Mr Garat , with the Théâtre of the Varieties, lately converted with the Opera-puffs out. It made its beginnings there on May 18th, 1861 in the Sylph , light comedy of Rochefort, Varin and Desvergers. Its success consequently does nothing but grow.

Equipped with a beautiful light tenor voice, his choice is essential when Offenbach seeks Pâris for its Belle Helene . Forming the perfect couple with Hortense Schneider, it will create the most famous works of the type-setter: Bore-Blue (1866), the Large-Duchess of Gérolstein (1867), Périchole (1868) then, only, the Bridge of the sighs (1868), the Brigands (1869), the Poachers (1873), the Baker has ecus (1875) and the Doctor OX (1877).

He does not forget however his collaboration with Herve of which he creates inter alia the Player of flute (1864), the Throne of Scotland (1871), the Widow of the Hefty fellow (1873), the Woman with Dad (1879), Lili (1882), the Cossack (1884) and Mam' zeal Gavroche (1885), where he has as a partner Anna Judic. He also interprets (and puts in scene) the repertory " parlé" , in particular parts of Meilhac and Halévy ( the Windmills , the Bells , the Small Marchioness , Ingenuous the , the Venus Passage, the Cicada , Brigitte or the Small mother , Decorated! ). It takes its retirement in 1894 after an ultimate resumption of the Brigands (1893).

It was married successively with two actresses: Miss Dantès of the Circus-Imperial and Marie Dubois of the Varieties.
