Jose Dolhem

Jose Dolhem (born the April 26th 1944 with Paris, France - deceased the April 16th 1988 with Saint-Just-Saint-Rambert, France) was a French racing driver.

Biography

Half-brother and cousin of Didier Pironi (they had the same father and their mothers are sisters), eight years its junior, Jose Dolhem carry out his beginnings in automobile sport in 1964 at the time of the Ford Cut organized by Ford France and intended to reveal new talents. After having put its career between brackets time to make its studies, it turns over to the competition in 1969 thanks to its victory in the Shell Wheel. Several irregular participations Formulates France of it then Formule 3 lead it until international competitions of Formule 2, where it controls in particular for the account of Frank Williams then of John Surtees.

Its contacts with Surtees (which then directs its own stable of Formule 1) enable him to carry out its beginnings in Grand Prix at the time of the season 1974. Not qualified with the GP of France and the GP of Italy, he manages to gain his place on the starting grid of the GP of the United States but gives up at the end of about thirty turns on order of his team following the fatal accident of his Austrian fellow-member Helmuth Koinigg. That will remain its single participation at a Grand Prix of Formula 1. The following years, Jose Dolhem will turn over in Formula 2 and will take part on several occasions in the 24 hours of Mans before putting a term at her career.

April 16th, 1988, less than one year after the accidental death of Didier Pironi, it commits suicide with the orders out of its private aircraft near Saint-Etienne.
